Interscope founder and legendary producer Jimmy Iovine will be honored by the Recording Academy’s Producers & Engineers wing next February for his huge influence on the recording industry. Dr. Dre and U2 singer Bono will serve as the evening’s honorary co-chairs.
“The work of the Producers & Engineers Wing is essential to ensure that the importance of sound quality and the integrity of recorded music continue to be acknowledged and preserved in our evolving landscape,” said the Recording Academy Pres./CEO Neil Portnow. “This year we pay tribute to an industry leader, Jimmy Iovine, who has made an indelible impact as a recording engineer, producer, founder of Interscope Records, and now entrepreneur focused on audio quality. As we continue to highlight those who work ‘behind the glass,’ we are very pleased this year to celebrate someone of Jimmy’s stature who is so dedicated to this important cause.”
Jimmy Iovine has worked as a recording engineer and producer with music legends such as John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Tom Petty, and more. He is the founder of Interscope Records and is also credited for first handing Eminem’s demo tape to Dr. Dre. He has also co-produced films such as 8 Mile starring Eminem, and Get Rich or Die Tryin starring 50 Cent.
The event is scheduled to take place on February 8th in Los Angeles.
